ABOUT ME

I took one international-related course in High School.  One.  Modern Civilization was required, and it was the only class throughout my High School career that had a global focus.  Though I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it, looking back I realize that we neglected a certain region - Africa.  We talked about Egypt for a week, and even then, my teacher referred to Egypt as the Middle East.  This was a history course, and as is with any High School class, we were not pushed to apply our historical context to modern day.  Needless to say, I entered college with absolutely no path, no drive, and no knowledge of global affairs...

Contemporary International Issues

[IS 205] Entry level course that emphasized a global perspective and the importance of development.

Multinational Corportations

[IS  341] Discussed the economic and cultural impacts of multinational corporations across the globe, with emphasis on developing states.

International Studies Senior Seminar

[IS 403] Took as an honors course, we mainly focused on global governance. It brought the IS major full-circle.

African studies emphasis

African History 1800-Present

[His 359]  With an emphasis on cultural development, I got to uncover the rich, diverse history of the African region during pre-colonial and colonial times.

African Politics

[PoliSci 373] Branded in historical context, we discussed the different types of African leadership and some projects for the future.

International Negotiations

[IS 364] Assigned specific African countries to determine positions on a multitude of international topics.

Political Science Emphasis

International Politics

[PoliSci 115] An intro course to Political Science, this class also fulfilled requirements for IS as we tackled political issues throughout the globe rooted in theory.

International Law

[PoliSci 308] Analyzed international laws and case studies.  The final project was to simulate the International Court of Justice to address the 2019 Jessup problem on cultural, economic, and intellectual property rights.

European Union Politics

[PoliSci 301] Discovered the inter-workings of the EU and simulated the European Council to address the European refugee crisis.

Global Environmental Politics

[PoliSci 388]  Combined environmental and political science to discuss the ever-present threat of climate change and how policy can fit in to address it.

International Political Economy

[PoliSci 322] Explained the interconnectedness of politics and the economy in both the international sphere and in the context of different regions.

Russian Politics

[PoliSci 336] Started with historical context and moved through the 20th century into modern day politics in Russia, a key player on the international stage.

Comparative Politics

[PoliSci 101] Another intro course that outlined principle political theories and described the various political systems throughout the world.

Politics of Genocide

[PoliSci 313] Admittedly morbid, this class included theory, international law, and moral responsibility.  In the end we applied our knowledge to conduct a genocide trial against the Assad regime in Syria.
